Six tiers, and what each can support

| Operator | A practitioner with a verifiable, numbers-backed track record | What works in practice, and what the literature misses about execution. Cannot settle a mechanism question. The verification requirement is doing real work here — 'operator' means public numbers, not a physique or a lifestyle. |
| Company | Self-reported by a party with a commercial interest | Existence and specification claims. Never efficacy claims about their own product, however good the underlying science looks. |

'Well-known' is not the same as 'weak'. If the strongest evidence points at something unglamorous that everyone has heard of — sleep, sunscreen, protein, walking, flossing — the correct response is to say so plainly and explain the mechanism, not to hunt for something more interesting. Reflexive contrarianism is the same failure as credulity, wearing better clothes. Skepticism belongs on evidence quality, never on popularity.
The four tells of a surface-tier source: a study named but never its effect size; a mechanism described but never its limitations; certainty that outruns the literature; and something for sale at the end that the certainty was manufacturing demand for.
